Sustainable Communities
Farm & Garden Program
Using our own school’s garden as a laboratory, we explore where food comes from, and how to cultivate the things we eat. Our beautifully cozy school is the perfect setting for children to gain a hands-on and intuitive understanding of this food cycle. Our “senior” students (4 year olds) conduct monthly field trips to our sister program Sandy Loam at Veronda-Falletti Ranch for further contextual learning. Don’t be surprised if children come home with a deep passion for growing vegetables and composting!
Ecology & Environment
Situated under a redwood grove right on Lichau Creek, Bright Skies Montessori is the natural habitat for bird, insect and amphibian species. We live in harmony with ladybugs, butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, turkey vultures, owls, frogs, salamanders and more. We learn through our observations of these animals and study of our shared environment that we are all part of a complex ecosystem.
